Lets Answer Some Questions You May Have
Clear answers to common questions about chiropractic care at Enhance Chiropractic Centre.
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic focuses on how the nervous system influences health and function. Your nervous system controls movement, balance, organ function, and how your body responds to stress.
The brain and spinal cord form the central nervous system. The spine protects this system and plays a key role in how information moves between the brain and body.
Daily stress, injury, and posture changes place strain on the spine. This strain affects movement and nervous system communication.
Chiropractic care aims to reduce this strain by improving spinal movement and alignment. This supports the body’s natural ability to regulate, adapt, and function well over time.
Is Chiropractic Care safe?
Chiropractic care is widely used and is considered a safe form of healthcare for people of all ages when delivered by a qualified practitioner.
As with any physical care, some people experience mild, short-term responses. These commonly include muscle soreness, joint stiffness, or temporary lightheadedness. These responses usually resolve quickly.
Your chiropractor completes a thorough assessment before care begins. This helps determine what approach is appropriate for you and reduces unnecessary risk.
Large population studies have examined the relationship between chiropractic care, medical care, and serious events such as stroke. These studies found no increased risk associated with seeing a chiropractor compared with seeing a medical practitioner.
At our clinic, care is adapted to your age, health history, and current presentation. If chiropractic care is not appropriate, this will be discussed openly.
Who can receive chiropractic care?
Chiropractic care is not limited to people in pain. Many people choose care to support posture, movement, nervous system function, and overall wellbeing.
Care is always individualised. Techniques are selected based on your size, age, and clinical presentation. This means care for a newborn, a pregnant mother, and an older adult looks very different, even though the goal remains the same: supporting healthy nervous system and spinal function.
If you have any medical conditions in your history, full disclosure during your initial consultation is important. This allows your chiropractor to understand your health background and determine the safest and most appropriate approach to your care.
If chiropractic care is not suitable, this will be communicated openly.
Chiropractic care during pregnancy
Pregnancy places unique physical demands on the body as it adapts to support a growing baby. Many pregnant women choose chiropractic care to support comfort, movement, and nervous system function throughout pregnancy.
Chiropractic care during pregnancy is gentle and specifically adapted to each stage. Techniques are modified to suit your body, your comfort, and your changing needs.
Pregnancy-specific chiropractic care may support:
• Improved comfort as your body changes
• Spinal and pelvic movement as posture adapts
• Reduced physical tension associated with pregnancy
• Better awareness of posture and movement
• A greater sense of ease in daily activities
Care during pregnancy focuses on supporting the relationship between the spine, pelvis, and nervous system, while prioritising safety for both mother and baby.
Many women choose to continue or begin chiropractic care during pregnancy as part of a proactive approach to wellbeing. All care is individualised and discussed thoroughly during your initial consultation to ensure it is appropriate for you.
If you have questions about chiropractic care during pregnancy, we are always happy to discuss your options.
Is chiropractic care safe for babies?
Chiropractic care for babies is gentle and we utilise techniques specifically for their age and stage of development. Care is considered safe and appropriate for infants.
Techniques used for babies are very different from those used for adults. They involve light pressure and careful assessment of movement, posture, and nervous system function.
Some families choose to have their baby checked after birth as part of a proactive approach to wellbeing. Care focuses on supporting spinal movement and nervous system function as babies grow and develop.
Before any care begins, a thorough history and assessment is completed. This helps determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate for your baby and what approach is safest. If care is not indicated, this will be discussed openly.
Parents are always welcome to ask questions and are involved at every step of their child’s care.
Why do we use X-rays?
X-rays are used when clinically indicated to help us better understand spinal structure and alignment. They provide additional information that cannot always be seen through physical examination alone.
When required, X-rays may help us:
• Assess spinal structure and alignment in more detail
• Identify areas that may need special consideration during care
• Rule out conditions where chiropractic care may not be appropriate
• Make informed decisions about the safest approach to care
The decision to use imaging is based on your history, examination findings, and individual needs.
When X-rays are taken, we use modern digital imaging and radiation-minimisation protocols to keep exposure as low as reasonably achievable.
If imaging is not indicated, this will be discussed openly with you.
